Working in Lincolnshire

Operations help for businesses across Lincolnshire

Propel is based in Grimsby. We work with owner-managed businesses across Lincolnshire, helping them work out what would make the day easier and then putting the changes in place.

Who we work with

Businesses where the work happens away from the office

Lincolnshire’s owner-managed businesses include contract manufacturers and food producers, agricultural engineering and supply firms, installers and specialist trades, and cleaning and facilities companies covering a lot of ground.

Across a county this size, travel time between jobs is a real cost. A job that moves at short notice, or an order that changes after production is planned, is felt more when the next site is forty minutes away.

Moments that eat into the day

Examples, not a diagnosis. Every business runs differently.

  • 08:15

    A customer moves Thursday’s job

It’s one change, but it takes a handful of calls and texts to make sure everyone who needs to know does. Someone still has the old time.

Change it once and the people it affects find out.

  • 10:30

An order changes after it’s been planned in

The office has the new quantity, but the production plan doesn’t yet, so the shop floor is working to yesterday’s version.

Order changes that carry through to the plan the floor works from.

  • 14:20

Photos and notes from site arrive by WhatsApp

They’re useful, but they sit in someone’s phone instead of with the job, so finding them later takes digging.

Updates from site that end up with the job they belong to.

  • 12:10

The same details, typed in again

Customer, address and job notes go into the quote, then the job sheet, then the invoice. Every copy is another chance for a typo.

Details entered once and passed along.

  • 09:05

“I thought you were sorting that”

Two people each assume the other has it, or nobody owns the step at all, so it waits.

Clear owners for the jobs that fall between people.

  • 18:30

The weekly numbers, done by hand

Figures pulled out of different places and into a spreadsheet, usually after everyone else has gone home.

Reporting that mostly puts itself together, so you just check it.

What we do

We understand how the work runs, then put the changes in place.

  1. We talk. A 30-minute call about how your operation works and what you’d like to be easier.
  2. We look at how the work runs. We spend time with you and the people doing the work, and look at the tools, sheets and messages you use day to day.
  3. We agree what to change. We suggest what would help most, in plain terms, with what’s involved and what it would cost, before anything starts.
  4. We put it in place. We set things up, connect and build what’s needed, show your team how it works and adjust it once it’s in daily use.

More questions and answers

Where are you based, and do you cover the whole county?

We’re based in Grimsby, and we work across the whole county, from Scunthorpe and the Humber bank to Lincoln and the south of the county, as well as with businesses elsewhere in the UK. Introductory calls are on Google Meet, and if seeing the work in person would help, we can talk about visiting.

We make things to order. Can you help with that side of the business?

Yes. Keeping order changes connected to the production plan, giving the shop floor a current view of what’s next and cutting down on re-keying between sales and production are all things we help with.
